Nowadays, propagation changing very fast..at this time we need some more power to penetrate the QRM but with widen tx bandwidth audio also can penetrate..this happen because with widen audio, we occupied more bandwidth to penetrate the QRM also..with two this work together power & wide bandwidth it's will be easy to others station to copy us..Just watch the video above & you will taste it..hi hi

Even feel too tired with routine works, still have time to this hobby..After got some advise & link from Ferry (Yb0AR), manage to play again to increase with TX bandwidth on this radio. Special thanks to Peter (G7VKK) for this kind of idea..very good also explanation from him..by using sound card & software inject to I.F Filter (12khz) at TS2000 (pre-installed), now this 'toy' can give almost 7kc TX bandwidth. No need madness modifications..May be most peoples will say 'splatter' but for me we have to try then we know..with word 'Experiment purposes' why not we try..hi hi..can say now I'm very happy with 7kc TX bandwidth on my TS-2000..Next project will be change LED light for LCD screen with Blue color..hi hi..Full story are here..

After done change Telefunken ECC83 Tube for MIC-200, now going further to touch-up little bit at EQ to get balance audio with current tube..you can hear some different with my audio now..separation, clarity is much better now..even we get much at low-end but we have to balance with hi-note to make sure people can understand what we talking about..our voice natural at mid side..so, we need to tone down mid-range at EQ to get audio more natural..so, enjoy the short video above & if possible please use your headphone..just do some sharing..

Today I have done 40m Double Bazooka antenna to replace 40m Delta loop position..Right now on-doing to dry-run this antenna.. receiving side very good, noise level also very low, can say only S1-2..very compatible to copy any weak stations..hi hi..the Delta Loop keep in store for time being to make sure this antenna can be utilize..Center frequency for this antenna is 7.060 Mhz.. The calculation as follow :

1. 460/7.060 = 65.15 ft (19.812 m)

2. 325/7.060 = 45.97 ft (14.012 m)

3. 65.15 - 45.97 = 19.03 (5.80 m)

Today, managed to frame all 'papers' got during previous contest..Since I got only 3 pieces so far, better I send it for frame & put at wall..Just for my collection purposes to make the shack more attractive (in my own view)..hi hi..Our friend from Arau (9M2GET) got more 'papers' at his wall, that be a part of my interest as well..may be some more friends I have not mention here also got many 'papers'..sooner or later, slowly..for sure I manage to get more 'papers' in future..hehe..If God willing..

Before this i'm using Ableton software (thanks to OM Ferry) to make audio more hi-fi or Voodoo..right now i try this software to make sure it's can work same as ableton..very impressive when the audio report not so bad..just try & try to make the audio more clarity, fidelity & big..hi hi..plus this time I try to combine with hardware like SX3040 to make the low-end more tight..obviously this combinations worked very well..my setting very simple like this ; using AT2035 condenser mic - mic preamp (mic200) - sound card - SX3040 - mixer - transceiver..so far the audio report not make me regret..hi hi..all the best & have a good day..

Before this we just follow Directive Instructions (DI) from MCMC's Officer to work at 40m band from 7.000mhz - 7.200mhz. So now all become realty when effective by yesterday (27/9/2011) the new Spectrum Bandplan were come out. And now we should thanks to God & person whose responsibilities with this goodness. The homebrew Delta Loop antenna look like just worked fine for Domestic or DX QSO..so far i'm very impressed with the performance wise because since i bring down dipole & put up delta loop the noise level very low & make me easy to copy other stations..Below are some report on this antenna..

It's time to emphasize treble side on my audio..so, this DSP1124p need to take care the matters..hi hi..this 'toy' was take place the EQ-131..by using parametric EQ, i can adjust a lots on frequency like bandwidth & gain inclusive fine tune..so, really hope this replacement can make the audio improve a little bit on treble side..

Recently, I tried to find others video at youtube.com but i found this one..so, i put it up because it's really give me 1001 memories with ZAK & DAL happen last 2 years ago which is i start with HF..this video was taken by ZAK after completed put up 3ele 10m monoband yagi at my QTH..yeah!! during 9W2..time running very fast & i really miss that's time..i have friends to change my mind instead stay at 2m to HF..DAL help me a lots on antenna matters inclusive installations..now he with 'DalBeam'..so proud with him..at least at 9M2 land we have antenna makers, says more than 20 antennas was sold in variety..what ever it is, the way we start the point to go far, don't forget to look back even on one occasion..sometimes unexpected our tears falling down because of the memories..

Tried to looking for EX3200 but unfortunately it's was discontinued by Behringer, but this product was replacing by SX3040..so now, just put up SX3040 in the rack..easily can heard the audio have a little bit different..which is this product try to make sure the audio more intelligibility, like tighter bass, improve on treble..plus the audio no more scattered like too much echo..what i'm done is bridge between CH1 & CH2 to play around with 'Drive', 'Tune' & 'Mix' to make sure the audio really tight enough as well as treble..the audio now were under control..hi hi..

To make sure full utilize the ACC2 jack at rear TS2K, i has choose MIC-200 to realize it..it's was using tube ultragain to boost up energy for every single audio..ACC2 jack is a line-in, so it's was a basic type mode of audio..need some audio chain to make it nice audio come out from TS2K..you can find audio record by DL6KA for my audio at 20m band last night at the last post..thank you very much for recording Mr. Peter..hope to see you again at down the log..

Done some modification for this kind of standard Icom SP-21 speaker which is bought a several days ago..This mod very easy to do..hi hi..Steps as follow :

1) Remove 14 nos. of screws

2) Slowly open a cover, factory use gum for speaker cover

3) Remove 5 nos. of screw at cover speaker

4) Slowly remove a sponge - inside cover

5) Use 1/4mm drill to make hole - mine make 8 nos. of hole

6) Reinstall all cover as per normal

Frankly to say, now the speaker acting like expensive speaker & no more audio like 'Tong Kosong'..hi hi..Now the audio come out more pleasant & nice to hear..Good luck & all the best..

Figure above shown latest configuration setting for ESSB at my shack..Recently, i use two (2) type of microphones to make the audio out fine because both of mic have different polar pattern frequency respond & performance also vary..Shure SM58 Beta are Supercardiode pattern & AT2035 with Flat respond..So, different mic with different performance..Hope with this little effort the audio out quality is fine & easy to read..hi hi

Very high noise level at PB5X QTH

After 'Dry-run' my new 'toy' about a week, what i found even this transceiver have the production since Jan. 2001 but it's still reliable to use until now..Bought at Blazer, Singapore which is can say reasonable price for this type of transceiver..really make satisfied me so far..Above are audio records by Roberto (PB5X), really appreciated with your afford to record my audio & send it to me via email..By this time he told me QRM/N at his QTH very high but he said 'I try'..You can heard the noise level are very high but how the ESSB penetrate the Noise..hi hi..Thanks a lot my friends..

This time I was thinking several idea how to improve the audio like bass, weight, dynamic audio etc..after asking a few stations whose really interest on this sub-hobby (essb), i have plan to take MDX2600 to compose every single audio coming without change the characteristic..what I found after put this equipment, the audio more soft & well-heard..so now, i still fine-tune which the actual knob to suit with my transceiver (only 2.4kHz)..

TS-570D - CAT

At the first, i was manage to buy the Cat cable but when i tried to homebrew the cable & finally i success to make it..so now & so on my ts570d was control by computer..using DB-9 straight cable to com port at computer..the ts570d can do a very good job..can work well using Hams Radio Deluxe or RCP control..you can look video at below to 'walk through' the inspirations..

Messy wiring

RFI Choke

There are many solutions for reduce/cut Mr. Ruffy (RFI) from enter to the transceiver..at the first step, i just make turn & put Toroid Snap at the turn to make RF/humming choke..& the result i got, RFI no more coming into my rig..so, i apply same method to each connections..below are the solution can be use for RFI/humming problem :

1. add Mix #31 Ferrite cores to the Microphone cable at each end, and in the middle..

2. mic cable is wired in a Balanced configuration..

3. change the microphone cable to a good quality cable like Canare or Mogami Starquad.. Whatever brand, be sure to get the Starquad..

4. shorten the mic cable to the minimum length necessary..

5. add a .001uf cap from the #2 Pin to #1 Pin, and a .001uf cap from the #3 pin to the #1 in the XLR connectors of the mic cable for RFI bypass..

I have experience using two (2) types of microphone, Dynamic mic & Condenser mic..both have their own performance & ability which is depends on what type of mode or situation..for me, very simple explanations, Dynamic mic just plug & play straight away use & no need power plus a little bit cheap compare Condenser mic need Phantom power (11-52V DC) to switch on the condenser plus slightly high the price..this power come from mixer or preamp which is have Phantom power support..but the performance on Condenser mic much better with nice audio & sensitive..but don't ever under estimate with cheap mic, if use very good set up equipment like preamp, EQ, DSP etc..the cheap mic can be action like expensive mic..i have used Dynamic mic about one (1) year & make me satisfied on their performance..right now, i move to use Condenser mic are to see the performance & report from far stations, how they copy my audio..hope the nice audio report from you soon..

Weekend

Fill this weekend with my family by bring them go to fishing at river..the distance about 35km from my house..i left this hobby (fishing) almost 20 years ago..but when i got kids, my eldest son (5yrs) ask for fishing..i have no idea at the first time but when i think back, it's was very good idea..so, play around with worm & prawn again now..very happy & enjoy today even doesn't get any fish..may be our 'food' not right..hehe..nevermind, just entertain my kids to enjoy this life..life have to balance with family, radio & enjoyment..hi hi..

2 Nights

Experience 2 nights worked with Africa (ZS) stations, really nice because band really open between West Malaysia & Africa..sometimes penetrate to PY stations also..have no idea because Sunspot (SSN) doesn't show any activities but it's work..band changing very fast plus sometime coming with high noise..anyway, it really nice to make contact with Africa & Brazil station on 20m band..thanks also for nice QSO..

Logically, all sound/audio equipment have humming..& how to cut this humming from going to the transceiver while TX..in this case, i have made one box, we called 'iBox'..all humming will be cut by some electronics inside the box..at the first i read at manual Equalizer, its will produce about +/-18db humming..& i was thinking how to make this noise not coming to my transceiver..have a very nice iBox done by W2IHY..it's so great ibox but i think another way how to homebrew it..with some idea given from somebody..i go to electronic shop to buy the thing..lucky they have it..i done the iBox about 1 hour..then i try..fuhhh!!! the is no humming/RF coming..this iBox cut about +/-23db..very happy & finally try to get 9M2ZAK to assist me to setting the audio..thanks ZAK for help..hehe..i will upload here some audio recorded done by ZAK soon..

DX at early evening (MST time)..lately, band changing very fast..started 1200z, band very nice open to EU & i think can stand only 3hours..after that, can't hear anything..try & try to continue CQ DX again but no feedback..so, just rechew to find another stations..unfortunately, no body reply..below are some reports & the working conditions :

Here shown some idea how to avoid coaxial cable inclusive the braid & center core from broke or short..idea given from DAL really give good result on my coaxial cable..lately, i saw at last of my feeding, can find some water dripping through coaxial cable..then he was give me this idea & now no more water dripping..very simple to do it..just make 0ne (1) turn & tie it..then use knife to make some hole/line for water dripping at that place..hope this kind of idea can be use/utilize to all of you out there..

Trimming & adjustment

After do some trimming on wire dipole & adjustment on coax trap, i got very nice VSWR with 1:1 value from 7.000mhz - 7.185mhz..above video show some result on the my Dual Band Trap Dipole 40/17..in this cases, no need tuner at all..i'm very happy with the result..hope it's can give best result as well on RST report soon..i have done this dipole before with only about 2 hours time..lucky all materials i have..just do some measurement follow as per formula calculation as per mention at my post before..with insufficient space this is one of way can be use..anyway, will try it soon to know how far the performance for this dipole..

Dual Band Trap Dipole 40/17

Due on the unforeseen circumstances, i have to bring down my Tribander Trap Dipole (40/20/10) & change to new one..do this Dipole with patient today, really give me very nice VSWR, which is value 1:1 from 7.000mhz to 7.090mhz..very happy with this result..waiting for RST from any stations soon..the theoretically on 40m (7.000mhz) really impressed (no tuner) & on 17m (18.150mhz) the VSWR is 1.6:1 & still ok..traps design using Coaxial Trap Design to get the resonant on 17m..now ready to hunting on 17m..hi hi..hope to see you soon at 17m band..

Last night, when i'm listen & listen, band like open to Africa..so, i rotate my antenna to that direction..try to call & the result as per above log..but, the band too short..suddenly, the band going quiet & i have to close my station early..the band propagation very fast changing now..so, need listen & listen everyday to 'mark', what such a time the band propagation will goes up..anyway, very happy to meet the stations worked at the first time with me..good luck & all the best to you there..

Low band pass filter

This is old junk Low pass filter from Yaesumusem (FF-50 DX)..try to place this 'toy' after my transceiver to reduce the interference to any electronic equipments..plus make my neighbor happy..hi hi..living at terrace house really wanted this equipment to settle all the RF..so now & so on, hope my neighbor will live in harmony without affect from any interference from my shack..

Even it's look so simple & 'naked' (i will box it soon) but it working well to operate the transceiver either changing band, mode, RF power, AF gain etc. by using HRD software..it's really doing very good job..if i not mistaken about a month ago, ZAK gave me..until now the CI-V still working & make my job easy especially when changing band & mode, the log book will follow as per current band/mode..no need to do twice job..anyway, big clap & credit to 9M2ZAK for this 'marvelous toy'..hi hi..

Just want to share some sort of 'toy' here..have a couple weeks ago, bought this 'toy' from ebay..very easy to know temperature inside/outside, polar rain, humidity, wind speed/direction & clock..product from Scientific Oregon are the most popular using by any stations around the world..so, very easy to configure all by touch screen plus user-friendly..using 4pcs AA battery or 12DC power supply to power up this 'toy'..with this weather station, easily can know what temperature & weather condition around my station..

Sometimes i can't remember which antenna i'm using at that time..before this i only guest the coaxial cable antenna & connect to my radio..lucky my radio not burnt because of a stupid mistake..after i tag all the coaxial cables match with an antenna, i felt more comfort & easy for me to know what antenna i'm using..so now & so on, i only look into the tag & do TX..

The Shortest Path not always the best path..sometimes Long Path working much much better rather than Short Path..but normally it's does not last long for LP, only about 20-30min at one time..conditions are always changing..solar activity and it's influence upon the Earth, the position of the earth relative to time of day and axis tilt - time of year - all play major roles in influencing HF propagation..it takes years of listening and operating to learn all these secrets and is what makes HF radio so interesting..

1:1 Current Balun

Simple 1:1 current balun by using RG58 coaxial cable & Toroid core, really easy to done it..this Balun is for my Dalbeam 6ele. Duo Monobander 20/15..Balun functioning to balance carrier between left & right element & to be the isolator between element & feeding cable..Current Balun are most popular using at any antennas..doesn't matter Dipole or Yagi..This Current Balun only can handle less than 1kW power..anyway, thanks a lot to Dal to give me idea about this Balun..

Cylindrical magnet

Easily you can find this magnet at any usb cables, what purpose of this magnet? some people say this is choke..mainly function to limit the RF interference from and to the device..so, at here i try at mic cable to find some different if any on my audio transmision..too nearest with transceiver, that mean a lot interferences will come or absorb into the cable..will look into it if got some differents otherwise let it be abandon there..hi hi

SO2R - 2nd batch

After success with the first batch one which is for Kenwood & Yaesu..right now i come with another version equipment for Kenwood & Icom..so now, very easy to handle 2 radio at one time..hope this thing can lasting at least for 2 years..hi hi..it's was not easy because the combination need my self to think how to put share mic grounding..because it's make interference each others when both wire share..lucky i got diode to handle this problem..now, it's working well as per needed..

Single Operator 2 Radio (SO2R), may be suit word for this 'homebrew equipment'..which is can be use with 2 radio by selector..this equipment it's was for Kenwood (8-pin jack) & Yaesu (RJ45) transceiver..the wire used at inside is braid isolator to protect any interference..the rest wire are normal wire..have test it with no issue..

Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), after awaiting about 3 weeks for applying this Callsign to MCMC..finally it's become realty after a lot negotiations & discussions between us thru email & phone..MCMC not decide to give me one alphabet, i try to apply 9M2C but they not accept..so, must three alphabet & start with 'S'..& i give two options either 'SSS' or 'SDX'..then this morning i got email from MCMC's representative the AA were ready to collect with Callsign '9M2SDX'..anyway, thanks a lot to 9M2GET for give idea & help to make this thing happen..also to MCMC to make it realty..

The operators for this Callsign are : 9M2ODY, 9M2ZAK, 9W2DAL, 9W2JLG, 9W2HOC.

Solar data

Quiet surprise me when i look to the Solar-Terrestrial Data because X-Ray column shown M2.2..normally i only found it's shown 'A, B or C' but not for today shown 'M'..i have no idea about that..but doesn't improve at all on propagation side..monitor all station with weak RST..try to beam my antenna to that station but still weak signal i got..so, there is not really help..anyway, try to work with ZY6 station last night..finally i got it..hi hi..

Praise to God, my logsheet were accepted with some collages like 9M2SMC, 9M2MRS, 9M2TO, 9W2CBL, 9w6ZAM etc..so far, the highest claim points is 9M2SMC (299920)..really superb & great team from Arau, Perlis..BIG congratulations to them..for this time 15m band really make me surprise which is a lot stations QRV plus propagation more toward on that band as well..anyhow, all the best to all contester..see all of you at the next contests..

This idea came from our friends 9w2dal for this antenna..he really done it very nice finishing..can say it can stand when hard wind coming..this antenna is dual band, consisted of 3ele. on 15m + 3ele. on 20m..both are MonoBand..trap-less..using single feeding, 1:1 current balun on 20m Driven element but on 15m by 'open-sleeve' method..very good combination done by DalBeam..normally people done with tribander beam..but this is special product done by him..it's was seated on G-250 rotator..at the early i think the rotator can't handle this antenna because of weight..but finally the rotator doing a good job..the both antennas can rotate well.. this antenna was given name D6E2B..i'm very happy to belong this antenna done by DalBeam

With very pleasant time, i have done my foot ptt after a long this work abandon..now with this foot ptt my both hand more on rechewing & for key in callsign at my logbook..before this, i have done for one of our friend (9m2get)..so, from the positive feedback i got.. now i must have one..so now & so on, i felt really enjoy with this hobby..

10m - Superb band

Praise to God, this morning local time, started 0740 (2340z) & so on, i has worked with a lot stations from NA, Brazil, Mexico & etc..it's was really make me happy because have a long time not play at this band..but this morning really superb..this spirit came after i looked at our friend's blogs..other stations from Malaysia like 9w2esm, 9w6zam, 9m6ybg & etc also active right now with this band..which is right now, i think band for 10m really open between Asia & other countries..really awesome when PY stations came with very beautiful audio, by right my antenna was beaming to Japan..really surprise me..i didn't change/rotate my beam..my working conditions as follow :

Today, 20m band not so good..i think the propagation not at the good shape..which is i feel very hard to get any contact from Germany (WAG Contest) for phone mode..lucky Hairie (9m2get) told me about 15m band..he said 15m open very good..so, i never think that i have Fishing Pole Antenna, which is can work from 40m - 10m bands..so, for sure 15m is in-between the band..using this Fishing Pole Antenna, i only got 12 stations for my logsheets..it's fair enough to make my logsheets look nice..hi hi..anyway, thanks you very much for remind & for supports..

Audio Quality or more Power

For those who effort to buy a linear amplifier, it's really help on DX when the band condition not so good & it's really need..for normal DX it's also can be use to get nice RST..barefoot with 100w, add more power to 200w..only give 3db different..some can make splatter at others band..how about if we go to eSSB? it's was very nice audio coming but if the setting incorrect, it's will make the audio broad or over-modulated..like example, running with 70w + audio quality & clarity it's really help another station to copy you well even the signal RX shown not too high..that's mean with low power + audio clarity it's really help for DX..2.1kHz is the best bandwidth for audio which is can penetrate all the qrm/qrn..some setting on more treble will be help on this..if bass too high, the audio will be more bassy..for local qso, bass will be help & can make the audio more nicer..anyway, with the very good propagation..all station can work each others even by using low power..

Picture shown some activity were happened last night, which is i have done to finish this cable for mic with PTT button..PTT button can be use by hand or paddle leg..asking for 1.5m cable length..one of our friend will go for this setup..so, to fulfill he wish, i make this special for him..plus he one of the 'hamsaholic'..hehe..anyway, wish u there all the best..especially for this upcoming event, Germany Contest..gud luck & gud dx from all your friends at South Malaysia..ok..for now, don't worry all tested..

Audio setup

This section shown my current setup for my audio..not so good like others but this the only setup i can effort to do..hi hi..by using vocal mic from Shure with nose buzz to maintain gap between mouth & mic..scissor boom mic modified from desk lamp..the others things are mixmax audio processor + audio balancer from Rolls..the last things is homebrew PTT with 580ohm in the box..then connect to transceiver..that was the story for now..

First & foremost a thousand thanks to Zaki (9m2zak) for recording my audio..very appreciated..the story here is same as per usual..running with 100w on 2ele. beam monoband (dalbeam)..& the audio side, i'm using vocal microphone from Shure + mixmax line + audio balancer..that's only the story here..& the propagation have a lot help at that time..anyway, thanks again to you Zaki..if got another stations record my audio also..please do not hesitate to send it to me..hi hi..
